Transforming Rigidity – Improve Vibrancy and Vitality as You Age
Transforming Rigidity
How would you like to maintain your vibrancy and vitality as you age?
What if we told you that there could be a way for you to fend off rigidity and age with a little more grace, balance and ease?
It’s true, rigidity literally grows overnight. Which means that as we age, most of us will get stiffer and stiffer in time if we don’t do anything about it.
Consider this…
Every single night when laying in bed, circulation shifts and slows way down. During a night’s rest, our muscles are not actively helping to move blood, lymph, and other fluids throughout the body. This reduction in movement allows stiffness to settle in making us feel more rigid and less flexible when we wake up.
Night after night, rigidity has the time to accumulate and build on its own.
Rigidity Sets In
When we consider our daily habits, it’s easy to see how rigidity can set.. Think about the amount of time we spend sitting—whether at work, driving, or dining. Add to that the repetitive movements from activities like biking, swimming, hiking, or running, and it’s clear we’re not exploring the full range of our body’s capabilities. This lack of varied movement allows rigidity to build upon itself quite quickly.
Keep in mind that rigidity affects not only those who are stiff but also those who are highly flexible. In some cases, rigidity can be even more stubborn in bodies with imbalanced mobility. When mobility is imbalanced, the feedback between the brain and body diminishes, causing us to move only from the areas where we are overly flexible. Over time, this results in rigid areas becoming even more rigid and flexible zones more worn out.
Consistency is key to aging with more suppleness and flexibility
The reality is, we can age with more suppleness and flexibility, and it does require a consistent, proactive approach. Here’s a few ways that Kaiut Yoga can soften up rigidity and promote graceful aging every time we come to the mat.
- The Use of Equipment: Equipment helps us in several ways: it allows us to reach different angles, makes poses more accessible, and most importantly, it exposes areas of rigidity.
- Pace: In Kaiut Yoga, we slow things down so that your brain has a chance to recognize these sensitive areas. Otherwise, when we encounter a painful zone, our instinct would be to move away reactively. Over time, this approach helps us to desensitize and reconnect with areas that have been lost neurologically.
- Nervous System: We can’t emphasize this enough: if you truly want to age gracefully and shift physical patterns, you need to work from a parasympathetic space. Nature is highly intelligent. The sympathetic mode is about fight or flight, but healing and transformation occur in the parasympathetic mode.
- Frequently Touching Sensitive Zones: With the Kaiut practice, we use yoga poses to identify sensitive (and often rigid) areas in the body. Over time, by consistently touching in on these areas, they gradually become less sensitive, allowing for increased and sustained movement.
- Variety: The body craves variety in every sense. When we address restrictions from multiple angles instead of a singular or repetitive approach, we can dissolve the root of the restriction more quickly, efficiently, and safely.
We’ve seen Kaiut Yoga work effectively for students of all abilities, and in many ways, it’s mind-blowing how effective the practice can be. Considering the accumulated time spent in our modern lifestyle habits, it’s amazing that just 2-3 hours a week can make such a significant difference.
Attending more frequently yields even better results.
Kaiut Yoga is definitely not for the faint of heart.
If you’re the type of person who often starts something new and then stops, the practice probably won’t have a long-lasting effect. However, if you enjoy unique mental and emotional challenges, love discovering how your body operates, and aim to age gracefully, then Kaiut Yoga might be exactly what you’ve been looking for.
